Job Story

Last year I left my first job at Bank of Indonesia and took a chance as trainee in a well known private commercial bank, Danamon. One year has passed, it is a little bit of nostalgia to share my story here in my blog.

I applied this job and got recommendation from my fellow UI economics graduate, Arlita. After an interview session with 3 BI interviewers, I had to wait for a while. Finally, I got the job and could start immediately. So excited! FYI, Ms. Laksmi who interviewed said that my blog was one reason why they choosed me over other candidates. I must thank Econochemist then.

When I started my job in BI, I felt awkward. It happened because I didn't know much about banking. Learning by doing, that's how I worked there. I shouldn't have felt that way since my coworkers also experienced the same thing. Thanks to my senior, Ms. Istiqomah (I usually call her Kak Iis - she's like a elder sister to me) who voluntarily gave some lessons to conduct my task. My boss, Mr. Kamal and Mr. Yudi were also very supportive to me and they could understand my difficulties to completed the job.

However, I didn't want to become a contract worker my whole life. I also felt that I had to learn more about the nature of banking business. Yes, I learned a lot there from several banking regulators and supervisors but sometimes I wasn't satisfied with their explanations. Maybe the only thing that I can do to learn about banking is by working in a bank. Some people may think that I'm silly, leaving central bank just to work in a commercial bank.

The opportunity came at the right time. I got selected to become a management trainee of BDI in Integrated Risk. I thought it was a great deal, I agreed then to signed the contract. I decided to accept this offer because risk management is an interesting field and the number of practitioners in this field is still rare. The other reason is because I would be placed in the bank's headquarters monitoring the risk aspects of bank wide business activity. I believed that I could learned a lot here while gave more value for the bank. So, here I am now working in Enterprise Risk and Policy, BDI.
